Boosting Immunity with Garlic

At our last meeting, one of the things we discussed was the best ways to boost immunity in your children, especially infants. With children, you can offer them liquid herbal formulas or Vitamin C and they will take them by mouth. But with babies and children who refuse to swallow anything suspect, it can be hard to give their little immune systems a much needed boost every once in a while. To solve this problem, I have occasionally used garlic on their feet. Our feet are able to absorb what we put on them and distribute it throughout our bodies. As proof of this, you can try it yourself. Do one of the following procedures, and after about 15 minutes, have someone smell your breath. They should be able to smell the garlic that has absorbed through your feet and made it all the way up to your lungs. Amazing!

Two easy ways to apply garlic to the feet are through garlic foot baths or garlic salve. Here’s how:

  • Foot bath: Blend up to 6 cloves in a pint of hot water and let it sit for an hour. Put feet in a small tub large enough cover feet up to ankles, in water as hot as you can stand. Add the garlic mixture and soak for 15 minutes.
  • Garlic Salve: Gently warm 3 tablespoons of virgin coconut oil. Then add 3 tablespoons of olive oil and 3 Tablespoons of fresh garlic. Blend at high speed for a couple of minutes. Transfer to a jar and refrigerate. It will thicken and you can then use it to rub on your baby’s feet (test first for sensitive skin).

The foot bath idea is from a great book called The Healing Power of Garlic by Paul Bergner. And the salve I tracked down at this blog.
