We had a great October meeting and wish everyone could have been there! In our discussion of ultrasounds, we noted that women have a wide variety of experiences with them, both positive and negative. Articles presented at the meeting were:

It was mentioned that ultrasounds do (as with all medical interventions), carry some potential risks. The above articles are a good place to begin reading and researching in order to make an informed decision about whether or not you want to have an ultrasound during pregnancy.
Also, Thursday morning (next week), October 20, will be our next playdate. Location is TBA and will depend on weather. Our next meeting is scheduled Monday, November 14.
Please join us for supportive chitchat and yummy snacks. We’ll talk about ultrasounds: how they work, why they’re done, and if you need one.
Bring what you know to share, listen to others, get information. And, of course, we’d love to hear any new birth stories! Looking forward to seeing you!
Our September meeting was great fun! We got to meet our newest little member, born just over one month ago. Congratulations, Amy and family! This month we discussed various ways to help new babies and their families sleep well, no matter what sleeping arrangements are chosen. We heard birth stories and enjoyed chatting into the evening!
Remember, play date tomorrow! Again at Shawnee Park (weather permitting), Thursday, 9/21, from 10:30am to 11:30am. Come and go as you please. We hope to see you!
October meeting scheduled for Monday, 10/10 at 7pm. Details to follow. :)
Let’s get together and chat while our kids play in the sunshine! Our monthly play date is schedule for this Thursday (Aug 18) at 10:30 in the morning at Shawnee Park in Xenia. We’ll gather in the back by the playground area. Hope to see you there!
For those who missed our May meeting, this month, August 8, we will again be watching the documentary Orgasmic Birth with a quick discussion afterward. The movie is an hour and a half long, but feel free to come and go as you must. Also, if you haven’t yet received one of our New Mama bags (or your membership card), please come and pick it up! Don’t forget to join us for our play dates as well, scheduled every third Thursday of the month. Our next play date is August 18 from 10:30 - 11:30am, tentatively planned at Shawnee park in Xenia; details and reminder to follow.
For more information on Orgasmic Birth, here’s a synopsis from the website: Orgasmic Birth is a documentary that examines the intimate nature of birth, an everyday miracle, and the powerful role it plays in women’s lives when they are permitted to experience it fully. This documentary asks viewers to reexamine everything they thought they knew about giving birth and the potential it holds. Undisturbed birth is revealed as an integral part of women’s sexuality and a widely neglected human right. Couples share their birth experiences, discussing their fears and how they found the support, nurturing, and ultimately the power and strength within themselves to labor and birth their babies in a beautiful, loving, and ecstatic way.
The Xenia Chapter of the Dar a Luz Network meets every second Monday of the month at 7 pm at 819 S. Detroit Street in Xenia. All meetings are free and open to the public. Children are welcome, although space is limited.
A hotly debated topic, newborn circumcision is a decision some parents feel uncertain about making. Let’s wade through this topic together. Please bring any compelling information and/or viewpoints you’ve encountered in your own research, and we will respectfully discuss these. Meeting is scheduled Monday, July 11, 7pm, at 819 S Detroit St, Xenia, OH 45385. Light refreshments provided.
Also: our monthly play date is scheduled for the following Thursday, July 21, in the morning, so watch for details …
Yes! We know: an update is long overdue.
Well, Xenia Dar a Luz has really been growing, and it’s exciting. We’ve added several new members in the past few months and also added volunteers to help us keep things rolling. We now offer “new mama” gift bags to qualifying meeting attendees, and we provide official membership cards to those who join (membership benefits are always being added)!
Our meetings are not only informational and relaxing, they’re fun! In May we sat back and munched popcorn while we watched Orgasmic Birth: the Best Kept Secret.* Our June meeting featured comfort measures for use during labor and birth. July will be a stimulating discussion on the long-debated topic of circumcision.
*We’ve received a number of requests to watch this video again. So, for those who missed our May meeting, in August (the 8th) we will have a second showing.
Our play dates have been a ball! We love chatting and letting our kids run around together. Please join us for another fun time tomorrow, June 22, at the cozy, inviting home of one of our devoted members (please email us at xenia@daraluznetwork.com for directions). Arrive anytime between 9:30 and 11:00.
Don’t forget to find us on facebook for additional updates!
Beautiful weather! A cool breeze swept through every now and then, and the ground was soft with spots of mud, but the sunshine and mild temperature made for a gorgeous morning, perfect for kids playing and moms chatting. What a relaxing and enjoyable time together! If you missed it, we hope to see you Thursday, May 19, from 10:30 - 11:30, for our next play date. Place TBA (suggestions welcome)!
Also, our next meeting will be Monday, May 9, so save the date! Details yet to come.
Despite the unpredictable weather this week, the play date is still scheduled for Thursday, April 21, between 10:30 and 11:30 at the Shawnee Park playground. Cancellation remains possible, however, in the event of rain; watch for updates on facebook!
